I have the same cutter (#23428) in two different styles. This is the thinner style. The cutter color is black.
Pull cutting blade up. Place the head of the cigar firmly against both the edge of the blade and the inside rim of the opening, then clip off head with a firm stroke. Opening the entire head (the end you smoke; the foot is the end you light) of the cigar allows the smoke to flow smooth and even. Even pre-cut cigars will smoke better by trimming the end, since V-cut or pierced cigars concentrate the smoke into a single aperture where tars accumulate, making the cigar taste harsh.
